Dog in the Fight. Open WOD 12.2

“It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.” ~ Mark Twain

So, its time to stop talking about the shoulder. Take the skirt off and stop complaining. It is what it is. Going at a lighter pace, or no, makes no difference. It’s time to STOP looking around the triple wide and comparing and feeling like a pansy. it’s time to just take heart in being at CF and hitting the WOD’s. Circa Jason’s most excellent post. Shiet.

WOD:

I. 2012 CrossFit Open WOW 2

Proceed through the sequence below completing as many reps as possible in 10 minutes of:

30 Snatches (75/45)

30 Snatches (135/75 lbs)

30 Snatches (165 /100 lbs)

Max Rep Snatches (210/120)

This workout begins from the standing position. The athlete will complete all reps at the first weight before advancing to the next weight. Score is total reps completed in 10min.

Completed: With a most excellent partner, Chad! Who is competing in the Open, and killed it at the Men’s RX weights, 68 total Snatches. Pure Awesome! My reps turned out as follows: 85 total, 30 @ 35lbs., 30 @ 45lbs. 25 @ 55lbs. Thanks to my partner for cheering and encouraging the entire time.

II. 4 Rounds:

Max Flutter Kicks in 1 Minute

Rest 1 Minute

Completed: Somehow I missed the Part II. Ended up rowing 1k to finish the day.

“If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.” ― Mother Teresa

Sometimes after a long day it is everything I can do to get through the front door at ACF. Sometimes the draw of simply going home and going to sleep can be more powerful. But when successful in getting to ACF and showing up for the WOD, the result is consistently the same, gratitude for making the extra effort.

Today was one of those days. Hard to motivate. Until the moment I walked through the ACF doors wherein the subsequent lifting of my heart and mind commenced:

First by being greeted with hugs and high fives from Dean;

Then with informative and personal coaching from Kevin, Theresa, and Clark. ‘Good form, Mary, you’ve got this, nice job, you nailed it girl…’;

Followed by shout outs of encouragement and smiles by Kim from all the way across the hall in the double wide;

Matched by fellow Strong Person, Nancy watching and cheering right to the finish. Only to then step into the triple wide as the WOD ended to say Great Job and help me break down my bar and put the bumpers away. Thanks, Nancy.

And therein lies the beauty of Crossfit, the connection it builds between its athletes. It’s intangible, powerful, untouchable, strong, persistent, delicate. This video tells the story of Connecting well.

WOD:

I. Barbell Lunges in Front Rack

3 sets, 10 reps (5 per leg)

Completed: first at 55lbs., then 75lbs.

II. Open WOD 12.5

AMRAP in 7 minutes of the following progression:

3 Thrusters (100/65)

3 Chest-to-Bar Pullups

6 Thrusters

6 Chest-to-Bar Pullups

9 Thrusters

9 Chest-to-Bar Pullups

and so on….

Completed: This is Crossfit Open WOD 12.5. Means was the 5th WOD of the 2012 Open. I did this at 55lbs. Clock ran out at Round 15, with 15 Thrusters and 11 Ring Dips.

65lbs. was RX for women. I do believe I could have gone 65lbs. and will remember this if/when the WOD reappears for the 2013 Open.

It’s interesting this WOD appearing today. As I keep thinking about the Masters Division. You can see their results for the 2012 Open posted here. It is very possible for me to achieve similar results. I’m getting close to a full pull up. Very close indeed. With more than a year to train, sky’s the limit.

suck. Open WOD 12.1

I did it. Something I try never to do. I went ahead and peaked online at today’s WOD ahead of time. Holy Good Golly. Now why’d you go and do something like that.

It was super interesting to watch the 2012 CrossFit Games Open WOW link on burpees. My Burpees look exactly like that. It’s so true. I know.

See you in the triple-wide!

Warm-Up:

Russian Gymnastics Warm-Up – Day 1

WOD:

I. 2012 CrossFit Games Open WOW 1

Complete as many reps as possible in 7 minutes of:

Burpees

II. Rounds (With a Partner):

Complete as many reps as possible of each of the following movements:

Kettlebell Swings (53/35)

Pullups

Wall Balls (20/14)

Jumping Lunges

Row 1 minute (Calories)

*Partner 1 performs max reps at first movement, then rests while Partner 2 works at same movement. Both athletes then go on to the second movement.

End of Day Post Script – Completed: Part I – So, the maximum amount of Burpees possible in 7 minutes? Well, Burpees are my SUCK. I got 46. Most folks around me were over 60, even into the 80’s. My partner, even while grunting through back pain, hit 76. Or was it 74. Either way. Pretty impressive. Of course it took me a minute to find something tall enough in the triple wide that was 6″ over my upwards outstretched hand, that I had to jump and hit. This provided a group laugh at the beginning of the WOD as folks looked at me and wondered where I would end up. In the real world this kind of stuff sometimes bothers me. At CF, not in the slightest. We’re a family there. And they have each earned the right to comment on something so blatantly obvious as my height.

Part II – 26 KettleBell Swings @35lbs. 16 Pullups. 25 Wall Balls at @14lbs. 30 Jumping Lunges. Rowed one minute and burned 19 calories. I can kick karate kung fu ass on the rower. We all have our weaknesses and strengths.
